SUPer star Taylor Swift
Just for fun here’s a more light-hearted post looking at how singer songwriter Taylor Swift plants easter eggs for paddleboarders
Let’s have a look at Taylor Swift and her SUPport for all things paddleboarding. Like all Swifties we just couldn’t resist this opportunity to reveal how Taylor’s songs have hidden easter eggs about all things sup, from Tis the Damn Season to Cruel Summer.
Tis the Damn Season
When the weather warms up you can see why paddleboarding has become the world’s fastest growing water sport. But surely this is a Taylor Swift warning about the way summer also brings out the paddleboarders who are a little careless about their safety and end up needing RNLI help? You could certainly fill a Taylor Swift venue with rescued paddleboarders as during 2018 there were 247 paddleboarding incidents but by last year (2022) it was up to 1,290 paddleboarding incidents. That’s a 422% increase over the past five years. Here’s how to stay safe at sea from the RNLI.
The Red album
Well, that’s a straight-up easy clue from Taylor Swift. Red is one of the UK’s premium paddleboard brands based in the eco-famous town of Totnes in Devon. Red were the boards that I first used and the ones I’ve most enjoyed teaching people on, so it’s good they are a B corp (using business as a force for good).
State of Grace
Like she said, because the only way to paddleboard is to enter this special ‘state of grace’ when full body coordination and the belief that you can balance on an approximately 11 foot inflatable board on the water come true.
New Year’s Day
How did Taylor Swift know that paddleboarders are such a fan of the new tradition of going for a New Year’s Day paddle. Pencil this into your diary now so that you’ve already got a date for 2024.
Fearless
That album, and that song, by Taylor Swift are for those moments when we are on our paddleboard and go out of our comfort zone. Maybe that’s learning to stand, making some moves, nailing the self-rescue or trying a sup yoga class. Whatever it is, here’s to fearlessness. And for Taylor, that was rerecording all her albums. What a woman.

The Lakes
Taylor may not belong in the Lakes (or those Windermere peaks) but you might find this an amazing place to go out on a paddleboard. Note to self: read the weather apps and be clear which way the wind is blowing so you can get back to your start point at Ullswater and Derwent Water.
Cruel Summer
For those chillier summer days when you regret not living by water, cheer yourself up by booking a paddleboard session - something to look forward to. Whether you can afford it or not, Taylor made you. Also see her song August.
You Belong with Me
We’re dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you’re looking for has been here the whole time. For me that was living in a country criss-crossed with canals and gravel pit lakes not far from paddleboard clubs which hire boards. What’s so lovely about paddleboarding is that it gives you a new skill and gets you into the holiday vibe without having to go far from home.
Happy paddling, and thank you Taylor Swift.
